In 1972 the Capri was still riding its early success. It proved highly successful, with 400,000 cars sold in its first two years, and Ford revised it in late 1971 with more comfortable suspension, enlarged tail lights replacing the ones from the first Escort, and new seats. Larger headlamps with separate indicators were fitted, with quad headlamps on some versions. The RS2600 and the Capri Special sat above the 1600 and 2000 versions that formed the bulk of sales.
