The Aerostar of 1996 was sold alongside the Windstar that was to replace it, and was the last year of the Aerostar Sport option package, available from 1992 to 1996 for non Eddie Bauer Aerostar wagons. It continued as a rear wheel drive van with the 3.0 liter and 4.0 liter V6 engines, an extended length body and E 4WD all wheel drive on XLT trims, and was a cargo van or passenger wagon. It was sold in a cargo van and in the XL, XLT and Eddie Bauer wagon forms, a rear drive minivan.
