Toyota Mirai

Automobiles

The Toyota Mirai, whose name is the Japanese word for future, is a mid size sedan powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and the first fuel cell vehicle to be mass produced and sold commercially. It was unveiled at the Los Angeles show in November 2014, with sales in Japan starting in December 2014 and in California in October 2015. It grew out of the FCV-R and FCV concepts and decades of Toyota fuel cell work that began in 1992. By November 2022 global sales totaled 21,475 units, most of them in the United States and Japan. A second generation on a rear wheel drive platform arrived for 2021. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation, JPD10 (2015 to 2020); the second generation, JPD20 (2021 to 2024).
