The Eagle Premier was launched in January 1988, with the first production models rolling off the assembly line on 28 September 1987. Although the car is sometimes referred to as a Renault Premier, this car was never marketed anywhere in the world as a Renault. The base Premier LX featured a standard 2.5 liter AMC four cylinder engine of 111 horsepower, with the 3.0 liter PRV V6 of 150 horsepower optional in the LX and standard in the ES models. It was built at Brampton Assembly in Canada.
