The Medallion was a captive import that AMC and Renault used to fill the gap left when the Concord and the Renault 18i were discontinued, so for years the dealers had offered no sedan larger than the small Alliance. It used the Renault 21 platform with changes for American safety and emissions rules, a longitudinal 2.2 liter four cylinder engine with fuel injection, and a five speed manual or three speed automatic, and it had a longer wheelbase wagon. Its model years run from 1988 to 1989.
