The Fireflite was introduced in 1955 as DeSoto's top trim package of the Firedome, wider and longer than that car, with a hemispherical head 291 cubic inch V8 making 200 horsepower with the four barrel carburetor and the PowerFlite automatic transmission, whose Flite Control lever sat on the dashboard. The car weighed 4,070 pounds and cost 3,544 dollars, and an AM radio was a 110 dollar option, so the Fireflite was priced well above the entry level Firedome it sat over.
