The Volvo Concept Coupe was a concept car first revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was based on Volvo's new Scalable Product Architecture, known as SPA, designed to provide the technical foundation for future Volvo models. The front wheels are driven by a two-litre four-cylinder petrol engine fed by both a turbocharger and a supercharger, while an electric motor drives the rear wheels, which makes it a plug in hybrid with combined peak power of 400 PS and maximum torque of 600 N m. Volvo head of design Thomas Ingenlath took inspiration from the Volvo P1800 of the 1960s, and Volvo's subsidiary Polestar later put the car into production as the Polestar 1.
