Subaru B5 TPH

Automobiles

The Subaru B5-TPH was a concept shooting-brake coupe with a Turbo Parallel Hybrid powertrain, introduced at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show as a car for long-weekend getaways for couples. Its drivetrain sandwiched an electric motor-generator between a Miller cycle petrol engine of 191 kW and the automatic transmission, with the 10 kW motor meant to reduce turbo lag and improve fuel economy to an estimated 40 mpg US on the EPA combined cycle, using manganese lithium-ion batteries from NEC Lamilion Energy. Subaru said the next Impreza would not be based on its styling but promised a hybrid built on the powertrain in Japan by 2007.
