The Volvo C70 is a two-door car that Volvo Cars made from 1996 to 2013 across two generations. The first generation debuted at the 1996 Paris Motor Show and was sold as a 1997 model in Europe and a 1998 model in North America, as a coupe from 1996 to 2002 and a soft-top convertible from 1997 to 2005, with five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines. Ian Callum designed the exterior, and it broke Volvo's decades-long tradition of boxy, rectilinear design and was the company's first luxury coupe since the 780. It was built at Uddevalla, Sweden, on a line separate from the 70-series sedan and wagon, and about 72,000 were made, 26,036 coupes and 46,786 convertibles. The second generation of 2006 to 2013 was a retractable hardtop convertible whose three-section roof, made by Pininfarina in Uddevalla through its subsidiary RHTU Sverige with Webasto, raised or lowered in under 30 seconds. A total of 88,760 second-generation cars were sold between 2006 and 2015, and the last C70 rolled off the line on 25 June 2013 after the joint venture ended.
