Production of the Vega ended with the 1977 model year, and the Vega's problems tarnished its reputation and that of General Motors. Front and rear 5 mile per hour bumpers on the 1974 to 1977 models added another 5.7 inches of length. The hatchback, with its lower roofline and a fold down rear seat, accounted for nearly half of all Vegas sold. The 1977 Vega was the seventh and last model year of the subcompact, with the notchback, hatchback and wagon bodies.
