The ninth generation Suburban, based on the GMT800, was introduced in late December 1999, in Texas only, and January 2000 nationally for the 2000 model year. The long serving 5.7 and 7.4 liter V8 engines were retired along with the 6.5 liter diesel, except in Mexico until 2002. GMC's equivalent was rebranded Yukon XL for 2000. Its model years run from 2000 to 2006. The 2005 Suburban 1500 won a J.D. Power award.
