Receiving only minor updates, the 1983 Monte Carlo gained a revised grille and interior trim patterns. The standard engine continued to be the 229 cubic inch V6, with the 150 horsepower 305 cubic inch V8 optional. The Monte Carlo SS was reintroduced in 1983, following twelve years of being discontinued, with the 175 horsepower 305 cubic inch HO V8 as standard, after the SS 454 package had ended with the 1971 model year.
