For 1983 the Malibu gained a block style Malibu badge on the front fenders, replacing the cursive style script that had been on the rear quarter panels in earlier model years. The 1983 model was the last year of the original run of the nameplate, which Chevrolet used from 1964 to 1983 before it returned in 1997. The nameplate then took a break of fourteen years, until 1997, when Chevrolet revived it on a front wheel drive car as the successor to the Corsica.
