The 1966 Impala was a mild restyle of the 1965, with a new instrument panel, grille, wheel covers except on SS models and rectangular taillights that wrapped around into the quarter panels. It was the second best selling convertible in the United States that year, with 38,000 sold, beaten by the Mustang by almost two to one, and enlarged 427 cubic inch big blocks were offered. The Caprice became its own series above the Impala.
