The 1971 redesigned B body was the largest car ever offered by Chevrolet. A big block Turbo Jet 454 was still available, rated at 365 horsepower in 1971, though power fell in the following years. Power assisted front disc brakes were standard on every model, and in spring 1971 all V8 full size General Motors cars received the Turbo Hydra-Matic as standard. The hardtop Sport Coupe continued as a smoothly sloped semi fastback reminiscent of the 1961 bubbletop styling, and a three speed manual transmission was standard at the start of the year.
