The 1969 models showed only minor changes, led by more rounded front end styling. The El Camino was still the longer model introduced for 1968 on the 116 inch wheelbase, sharing the Chevelle Malibu exterior and interior trims, and the 375 horsepower L78 396 was still on the options list, as was the SS-396 model, and the car was in the middle of its third generation. The Chevelle based utility model was marketed alongside the Chevelle Malibu, whose station wagon and sedan wheelbase it used.
