The 1967 El Camino followed the Chevelle's styling facelift with a new grille, front bumper and trim, and the 1967 model year also brought the collapsible steering column and the options of disc brakes and the Turbo Hydramatic 400 three speed automatic transmission. There was no actual factory El Camino Super Sport until 1968, but many owners have cloned 1967 SS396s using Chevelle SS396 badges and trim, and 2,565 L35 396 engines were sold in El Caminos.
