For 1975 the Corvette was sold as a more efficient car, with longer service intervals, electronic ignition and the federally required catalytic converter, which meant unleaded fuel only. Chevrolet expected new federal safety rules to end open Corvettes, so this was thought to be the last soft top ever, though it returned in 1986. A base car with automatic took 7.7 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour.
