For 1966 the big block grew to the 427 cubic inch V8, offered at 390 and 425 horsepower, and it had much more torque than the 396 it replaced. With big blocks in demand, the small block choices were cut from five to two. The nose gained an eggcrate grille insert, the coupe lost its roof vents, and sales reached 27,720, another record. With big block V8s the order of the day there was less demand for the 327, and an eggcrate grille insert replaced the horizontal bars, while an emblem appeared in the corner of the hood.
