The 1961 Corvette gained twin taillights, a rear treatment that the model has kept to this day, and a new boat tail that carried through to the next generation. It was the last year for contrasting paint in the side coves, and the last two tone Corvette of any kind until 1978. The twin taillights, the new boat tail and the end of contrasting cove paint made the 1961 a transitional car between the 1958 face and the Sting Ray that followed in 1963.
