In 1954 Chevrolet built 3,640 Corvettes, and nearly a third of them were still unsold at the end of the year, because buyers had reacted badly to the 1953 and early 1954 cars. The cars were offered in Pennant Blue, Sportsman Red and Black as well as Polo White, every option was in effect mandatory so all were equipped alike, and a dealer fitted Paxton supercharger became available that year. Order guides listed several options, but all of them were in effect mandatory, so every car was equipped the same.
