For 1992 the 2.2 liter overhead valve standard engine adopted multi point fuel injection to improve output to 110 horsepower, unlike the sequential injection version of the 2.2 used in the Chevrolet Corsica. The Cavalier was in the middle of its second generation, in the facelifted form of 1991, and it was sold in Mexico since 1990 as the entry level General Motors car there. The 1992 car was the fourth model year of the second generation introduced for 1988.
