The 1979 models continued with only minor refinements, and one major change was the relocation of the reverse lights to the bumper filler panels right below the taillights. The Caprice of 1979 was still the downsized car launched for 1977, with a 305 or 350 cubic inch V8 on offer, and it remained one of the most popular cars in the United States in the year of the second energy crisis. It was the third model year of the downsized body introduced for 1977.
