The RS designation returned for the 1989 model year, and the raised rear spoiler that became available in 1988 on base coupes was dropped. IROC-Z coupes had a new dual catalytic converter exhaust option, and ordering the G92 axle with no air conditioning automatically gave RPO code 1LE, of which 111 cars were built. In 1989 a total of 1,426 IROC-Z coupes had the Performance Axle package, and the dual catalytic converter exhaust option was available only with the 305 TPI motor and a manual transmission or the 350 TPI and the automatic.
