The Z28 engines changed for 1983, with the LU5 Crossfire 305 V8 rated at 175 horsepower, joined in April 1983 by the new 5.0 liter L69 four barrel V8 of 190 horsepower, available only with a manual gearbox. Because it came late, only 3,223 L69 cars were sold. The transmissions were upgraded, and the base coupe and Berlinetta carried on with little change. The base coupe and Berlinetta carried on as in 1982 with very little change other than newly available colors.
