The first generation Escalade, as well as its mechanically identical twin the GMC Yukon Denali, was available only in the short wheelbase four door wagon configuration with few options. Both vehicles included a generous amount of standard equipment not available on other General Motors full size SUVs, including 16 inch chrome clad aluminum alloy wheels, a Bose seven speaker stereo and auto dimming mirrors. The interior design, however, would differ significantly between the two models. The 1999 and 2000 Escalades achieved 11 miles per gallon in the city and 15 on the highway, and the 2000 model was the last of the first generation.
