All Cadillacs were restyled and re engineered for 1961, and the Eldorado Biarritz convertible was technically reclassified as a subseries of the De Ville, a status it would keep through 1964. New rear slanting front pillars with a reverse curved base, as first used on the 1959 and 1960 Broughams, with a somewhat less expansive windshield, were incorporated. The Seville hardtop name had been dropped.
