In 1969 the concealed headlamps were eliminated because of the new federal safety regulations stipulating that the headlamp covers must operate within a specific period of time when entering tunnels or darkened buildings. The 1969 Eldorado remained a front wheel drive hardtop coupe with a 472 cubic inch V8, sharing the E body with the Buick Riviera and the Oldsmobile Toronado. The 1969 car was the third year of the front drive generation.
