A safety car variant of the BMW M Coupe was produced by the BMW M division for MotoGP and used in the 2000 season. The M Roadster and M Coupe did not receive the cosmetic changes during the facelift in 2000 that the rest of the Z3 range got. The ordinary roadster and coupe continued in production, with their six cylinder engines. The 2000 season for MotoGP saw this safety car used in the series to lead the field, in the most visible role for the model that year.
