The Z3 Coupe was unveiled at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show, with the shooting brake style hatchback body that completed the Z3 line up, and the M versions in roadster form, the M Roadster, were introduced this year with a high output straight six engine. Both M and ordinary models were built on the same E36 based underpinnings, and 1997 saw the car at its most varied. The Coupe was produced from January 1998 but was shown in 1997, and the M cars crowned the range.
