The Z1 was a single generation car, a two seater roadster built in Munich between March 1989 and June 1991. It had a galvanised steel monocoque with thermoplastic body panels that could be swapped, the retracting doors that slid down into the sills, and a 2.5 liter straight six taken from the 325i. The car was built in a run of 8,000, though the order book had once held 35,000 names. Its model years run from 1989 to 1991.
