The E53 X5 carried on in 2005 in its facelifted form with the xDrive system, the 4.4i and 4.8is V8 models and the 3.0 liter six cylinder range, built at Spartanburg. It was the sixth year of the first generation, and BMW offered the BMW Assist telematics system, with its SOS button, as an option. The E70 was still a year from its launch. It was sold worldwide as BMW's first and, at the time, only SUV apart from the smaller X3.
