A plug in hybrid variant of the X2, called the xDrive25e, was unveiled in January 2020. In September 2020 BMW presented the special variant M Mesh Edition with a sporty look. The X2 was in its third year as BMW's sporty crossover, positioned between the X1 and the larger X3 in BMW's SUV global line up, and built at Regensburg. It was the year in which the X2 gained its plug in hybrid and its special editions.
