The BMW 1500, introduced in September 1961 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, entered regular production in October 1962 and was manufactured until December 1964. It was the first of the New Class sedans, produced by the West German automaker BMW, and the first all new BMW since the 303 of 1933, with a new engine. The 1500 was replaced in 1964 by the 1600, but remained in markets where larger capacities incurred higher tax.
