The regular 8 Series was taken out of production at the end of April 2026, ending the second generation 8 Series that had been built since 2018 at the Dingolfing plant. The 8 Series nameplate was again retired with no successor, thirty six years after the E31 first appeared in 1990 and after the two generations had totalled many thousands of coupes, convertibles and Gran Coupes. It had been built since late 2018 and the end of the 8 Series production brought the second life of the name to a close.
