Series production of the E38 730i and 740i commenced in April 1994 for the June domestic German launch, after the car was unveiled on 18 February 1994. US specification cars entered pre series production in January 1994 and series production in September. The E38 was thus on the market from mid 1994 as the 1995 model year, as the third generation of the 7 Series. Pilot production models had started on 23 July 1993.
