In 1987 the E32 was in its first full year, and the 735i and 730i were the main models, with the V12 750i, BMW's first twelve cylinder engine and the first V12 in a German car since the Maybach Zeppelin DS8 of 1939, to come in 1987 for the 750i. The 7 Series thus found itself the flagship of BMW for the second time. The first cars off the line were the 735i of June 1986 and the 730i of December 1986, so 1987 was the first full year of production for the model.
