A facelifted 5 Series was unveiled on 27 May 2020, and the reveal took place in the BMW Driving Center in South Korea after the planned Busan Motor Show was cancelled because of the COVID 19 pandemic. For the 2020 model year BMW increased the 530e's battery capacity by about 30 percent to 12.0 kWh, and in December 2020 the 545e xDrive was released for the 2021 model year. The facelift cars were then ordered from June, with Sport Line discontinued.
