In 1990 the 520i and 525i changed from the M20 single overhead camshaft engine to the M50 double overhead camshaft engine, and the range of the E34 was expanded to include the Touring wagon in some markets. The inline six 530i was produced until 1990 and the V8 version would follow in 1993. The E34 was thus becoming BMW's high volume executive car. The 530i inline six ended production this year in favour of the V8 which came later.
