Building of the 3200 CS began in January 1962, following the show car of the previous autumn. It was the final variation on the luxury platform that had started with the 501 of 1951 and a successor, in spirit, to the 503. Production numbers differ between sources, but more than five hundred cars were built. One convertible was built by BMW for its major shareholder, Herbert Quandt. The engine was a V8 of 3,168 cubic centimeters.
