The F30 was unveiled in Munich on 14 October 2011 and production of the sedan began on 28 October 2011, with the first customer deliveries following in February 2012. It was the sixth generation of the 3 Series, and the first to be offered in a long wheelbase variant for China. The design was from Christopher Weil, with the sedan and wagon versions made at Munich and Regensburg. The F30 platform also served the F31 wagon and F34 Gran Turismo.
