Customer deliveries of the E46 sedan began at the end of April 1998, the market launch of the fourth generation 3 Series. The coupe followed, with production starting in December 1998 and running through to May 2006. All wheel drive, last offered in the 3 Series in 1991, was reintroduced on this car for the 325xi, 330xi and 330xd models. The new car was bigger than the E36 and its design was by Erik Goplen of DesignworksUSA.
