The 1988 models were the refreshed Series 2 cars, which stayed much the same until the end of the production run. The Touring was in its first full year, joined by the 320is two door sold in Portugal and Italy from March, and the 325iX arrived in the United States, bringing the first all wheel drive BMW to American buyers. The front and rear valances and rear wheel arches were also updated for American cars.
