1981 BMW 3 Series

Automobiles

In 1981 BMW added the 315, a spartan economy model introduced in March in response to the second oil crisis of 1979, with a detuned 1.6 liter engine and cost cutting touches such as exposed screws on the bumpers. The optional S Package for the American 320i also arrived, with Recaro seats and sports suspension, and only 2,500 of the 320iS were made. Baur TopCabriolet production ended this year. The 316 base model, in production since 1975, was also dropped after 1981.
