In 2018 the M2 Competition replaced the standard M2, with a more powerful engine from the M3 and M4 family, as the top version of the 2 Series coupe. The ordinary F22 coupe and F23 convertible carried on in their post facelift form, and the range still came from the Leipzig plant, where the 2 Series had been built since it began production. The Competition was therefore the fastest of the two door 2 Series line up, positioned above the M240i.
