The 1 Series was a major part of BMW's sales in 2008, when the E8x accounted for nearly one fifth of the total BMW sales. The coupe, which had been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and had gone on sale on 24 November 2007, and the E88 convertible were in their first full year, joining the five door and three door hatchbacks in the range. In the same year the E81, E82 and E88 shared showrooms with the E87, which had been facelifted a year before.
