The Sixteen Light Six was announced in October 1927 as a medium saloon in the range of Austin, above the Seven and Twelve models but still much smaller than the 3.6 litre Twenty. Its six cylinder engine was new, though similar to that of the Twenty with its timing chain at the rear of the block. A plated Austin Six script was fixed to the radiator grille to tell it from the smaller engined models.
