Until 1962 the cars appeared in North America and France as the Austin 850 and Morris 850, and in Denmark as the Austin Partner, which lasted until 1964. In 1962 Ford launched the Cortina, a larger car that Ford determined was the better budget car to compete with the Mini, which it thought BMC was losing around 30 pounds on for every car it sold. The Cortina, launched in 1962, was the larger car Ford chose to take the budget market.
