The Metro van was the last model of the original Metro to end production, at the end of 1990, only kept in production because of its popularity with small businesses and a deal between Austin Rover and BT to supply Metro vans. The new Rover Metro was launched in May 1990, a heavily revised version of the original Metro fitted with a new range of engines. The Rover brand replaced the Austin name that year.
