From 1989, just before the Metro was replaced, three door versions were given a raised fuel filler, which also coincided with the cars being able to run on unleaded petrol due to hardened exhaust valve seats, three years before EEC regulations made a catalytic converter compulsory for all new cars. The Metro of 1989 was the Mark II, built by the Rover Group, in its ninth year. It was the last full year of the original Metro car.
